Mr. Urban Eriksson was born in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1959. He studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm from 1977 to 1982. Mr Eriksson also studied with prof. James Watson at the Royal Academy in London from 1980 to 1981 and with prof. James Stamp in Los Angeles in 1983.
Since 1982, Mr. Eriksson is a member of the Royal Opera in Stockholm where he holds the position as principal trumpeter since 1985. Mr. Eriksson is a founding member of the Swedish Brass Quintet and the ?KammarensembleN? in Stockholm.
Mr. Eriksson is also a member of the Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble, which he has made several recordings with, such as Bach?s B-minor Mass, Bach?s Christmas Oratorio and Händels? Messiah.
In addition to his musical career, Mr. Eriksson also works as an innovator. He has invented and developed the Hearwig;, which is an acoustic ear protection device for orchestral musicians. He has also developed a piccolo trumpet made especially for playing Bach?s Brandenburg Concerto No. 2.
Mr. Eriksson comes from a musical family. He is the third generation in line who has chosen music as his career.
Mr. Eriksson is also a teacher at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. He also coaches a soccer team in the minor league.
