Violinist Kenneth Liao joins Hovkapellet's first violin section as a permanent member after working for three seasons as a tutti musician with the San Diego Symphony and two seasons as a Fellow with the New World Symphony. Born in Maryland, USA, Mr. Liao received his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Southern California, where he studied with Midori Goto, and subsequently completed a Master of Music degree at The Juilliard School under the tutelage of David Chan.
Kenneth has held guest positions with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Britt Festival Orchestra and Des Moines Metro Opera (as associate concertmaster), and also performed as concertmaster with the New World Symphony, Juilliard Orchestra, Pacific Music Festival and the Academy Festival Orchestra at the Music Academy of the West. These opportunities led to ensemble and solo appearances at venues including Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Hall, the Kennedy Center, Suntory Hall and Sapporo Concert Hall Kitara, among others.
In addition to working as an orchestral musician, Mr. Liao also loves playing chamber music, teaching and being involved with outreach. While living in San Diego and Miami Beach, he had the opportunity to mentor local middle and high school music classes, sectionals and side-by-side performances while building a private teaching studio, in addition to performing at various social institutions.
