JiJi (Jihyun) Lee was born in Seoul, South Korea, and began learning the piano and violin at the age of four. She started her trial as No. 5 First Violin at the London Philharmonic Orchestra aged 24.
Jiji performed as a member of the Academy of the Orchestre de Paris in 2007/08 and has participated in festival orchestras around the world, including the Verbier Festival Orchestra and Festival Chamber Orchestra, the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra and the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra. She is regularly invited to lead the Orchestre Lauréats de Conservatoire and the Orchestre Prométhée in Paris. She participated in a masterclass and several concert projects at IRCAM with Pierre Boulez, and has since been regularly invited to take part in contemporary music projects there.
JiJi studied at Seoul Arts High School and then in 2005 moved to Paris to study with Roland Daugareil at the Conservatoire National Supérieur Musique de Paris, where she also studied with Luc Hery, Hae-sun Kang, Serge Pataud and Suzanne Gessner, and was awarded a Diploma in Chamber Music with her fellow trio members. After completing her studies there she went to the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional (CRR), becoming Concertmaster of the Cycle Perfectionnement-Formation d'Orchestre. While on this course she auditioned for the London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) and was immediately invited to begin a trial as No. 5 First Violin aged 24. JiJi has held her permanent position in the London Philharmonic Orchestra since 2012. She plays an instrument by J.B Vuillaume St-Cecile 1845.
